So, this is my official posting of my story.

For the 2007 Feedback Exchange Challenge I was assigned [info]fandom_me. I chose one HP and three Torchwood stories.

Untitled Ficlet – HP, Remus

This was lovely. I can totally see him and Sirius trying to figure out the camera. Also, I like the clear moment of decision when he put the photo away:

Remus didn't need the photograph, and Sirius didn't need a shrine.

Really nice.

Five Times Jack Harkness didn't sleep with Torchwood Staff – Torchwood, Jack

Heh. First, I love the title. Jack Harkness, little black dress of *any* fandom.

I liked all of these and I think they captured a nice piece of each team member. There is a bit of repetition in the open lives of the Suzie and Tosh sections that was a little strange though. The parallel between Jack and Suzie is great and I liked how Tosh's seemingly endless selflessness is why Jack wouldn't sleep with her.

The last three sections, Owen, Gwen, and Ianto, are the strongest and seem to build nicely. Each of them has lines that are wonderful:

Owen: He was alive in his rage. All sharp edges and pain, blood and loss and it roused something primal in Jack.

Gwen: Her innocence, her freshness, her perspective, were all more important to him than sex. Even fantastic sex.

Ianto: Then Ianto said I love you, and Jack didn't. It was the first time Jack didn't sleep with Ianto, and the last time Ianto offered.

That last one is quite a sucker punch, but seems entirely likely to come from the Jack we see in Torchwood.

Between The Lines - Torchwood, Jack with Jack/Jack and vaguely implied Jack/Doctor

I have a weakness for post-ep ficlets like this. These are really good and I think they have a good through line, character-wise. Your Jack voice is very distinctive and clear in each one.

No surprise that the ones I liked the best corresponded to the episodes I like the best – Day One, Countrycide, They Keep Killing Suzie, Captain Jack Harkness, and End of Days. (One small thing that did bother me – capitalization in titles. If it was a sentence 'They keep killing Suzie.' would be fine, but in a title it should read 'They Keep Killing Suzie'.)

The Countrycide piece is especially nice and I like this bit in particular: This is insanity. Corruption. Death. He hasn't seen anything like it since the first time he went to war. And there's absolutely nothing human about it.

But my favorite is Lose Yourself, the ficlet inspired by Captain Jack Harkness. Our Jack lives in the moment and this really captures what I think he was trying to tell Jack about taking advantage of the time he's got. Also – hot. Best line:

Jack's making love inside that kiss.

Rowr!

Time Capsules - Torchwood, Jack

I have been wondering what it will be like for Jack when he gets back to the Doctor and this was a nice take on it. I have no doubt the TARDIS is filled with rooms that the Doctor can't bear to go in and I like that Jack can't go into Rose's room. And the last line is amazing.

My memories are a jumble of stories I've been collecting over the last few months and now it's time to share them - YAY!

Battlestar Galactica

Persephone Rising by [info]daera23
Kara/Leoben, R, AU post-Eye of Jupiter

Um, if you have not read this - go! Pilot shippers, do not be put off by the pairing, since this is really more about Kara that anything else. The story is harsh and beautiful and the mythological illusion is spot-on.

At some point in the future, there will be a sequel to this, as well as a companion story written from Lee's POV. (See [info]daera23, if I keep saying it, it will come true.)

Ear Turned To The Roar by [info]inlovewithnight
Helo, Lee, & Six, PG-13, AU pre-Eye of Jupiter

The author's summary is this: What is human, what is Cylon, what is choice?

This story took me completely by surprise. Without giving too much away (because that would ruin it), this story is about the definition of humanity and the struggle of when to use it. Each of the main characters voices here are heartbreaking, Six in particular

Amateur by [info]fahye
Anders, PG-13, AU post-Resurrection Ship, Pt. 2

I admit it, I am a secret member of the Sam Anders Fan Club. Honestly, I love him and if I didn't think Lee and Kara were totally fated to be, Anders is exactly the person I'd want for Kara. Fahye makes him three-dimensional here - smart, observant, and real.

Doctor Who/Torchwood

A Light in the Dark by [info]faded_memories
Rose, PG-13, Post-Doomsday

What if Rose lied to the Doctor about who was really pregnant? Better yet, what if she meets someone she loved, but thought was gone?

I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor by [info]svilleficrecs
Eleven/Rose, NC-17

The Doctor comes back to London and meets a 16-year-old Rose. Totally, utterly dirtybadwrong and way, way hot. Also, in this incarnation the author has cast Paul Bettany as Eleven. (I'm looking at you, [info]shadesofbrixton).

Dance Without Sleeping by [info]seimaisin
Jack/Gwen, R

This story, set 10 years in the future, takes a look at the team and where they might end up. I think the relationship between Jack and Gwen is lovely here and true to who the characters are.

Lost and Found by [info]kaneko
Jack/Ianto, PG-13, Spoilers up to End of Days

The team thinks Jack is missing, so Ianto tries to find him. Funny and sweet, with great characterization. Also - there are charts and journals.

In The Mood by [info]chicafrom3
Jack/Tosh, PG, AU post-Captain Jack Harkness

This is what might have happened if Jack and Tosh hadn't made it back through the Rift. Stuck in the 1940's, they make do the best they can. Really lovely, and with a great twist at the end.

I also have Supernatural recs, but there are *a lot* of them, so they get a separate post.

Read, give feedback, love.

Rent

The Ballad of Mark and Roger by [info]marksykins - Mark/Roger, PG-13

The story of Mark and Roger, how they met through at least the beginning of the play/movie. I cannot explain how much I love this story. Seriously, so incredibly lovely.

"Why do you put up with me?" asks Roger, when Roger-on-film finally looks away.

"You're my muse," answers Mark automatically.

Three's A Crowd by [info]stage_longsama - April/Mark/Roger, M (Adult)

Remember that threesome kink I have? Yeah. Hot, with an interesting take on April and the fallout after her suicide and Roger's diagnosis.

The Truth by [info]alexhuntley - Mark/Roger, PG-13

A stream of conscious piece from Roger as he reflects on April, Mark, Mimi and things that need to be said before it's too late. A little rough in spots, but still worth it.

Leaves of Grass by [info]jlh - Mark/Collins, PG-13

Totally not a pairing I thought would ever work for me but here, it does. Post-Rent, Mark goes to Utah for Sundance and takes Collins with him. 1st person POV, and the Mark voice is spot on.

"So you think that the specific gravity of our relationship was such that in its aftermath we both became homosexuals?"

Within You by [info]haleyj_the_bat - Roger/Mimi, PG-13ish

An interesting part of Roger's character, which is rarely addressed (in canon or fanon), is that he is a recovering addict who is involved with a junkie. I can't possibly imagine what that might be like, to have that thrown in your face all time. Haley has created a fascinating and slightly dark glimpse into what that scenario might be like.

Roger just shrugged, and his eyes were drawn towards the bubbling liquid. His stomach clenched again, and he didn't look away. "I want to watch."

A Little Left of Center by [info]torchthisnow - Mark/Joanne (bits of Mark/Roger, Roger/Mimi, Maureen/Joanne), PG13ish

Please don't be put off by that pairing. I am a firm Mark/Roger shipper, but the quality of this story made me buy it. The characterization here is phenomenal, particularly Joanne, whose POV this is from. Also, this:

The funny thing is that Mark loves Roger in a way he'll never admit, the funnier thing is that Roger loves him back, and the funniest thing of all is that Joanne's the only one who sees it. There's too many things in between, Mimi and their friendship and AIDS, AIDS more than anything is what keeps the both of them silent.

That clinched it for me, right there. The most true interpretation of their relationship ever.

Hands Open by [info]shadesofbrixton - Mark/Roger, NC-17

You didn't really think I'd leave you with no porn, did you? I have mad love for Brix and pretty much everything she writes is brilliant, so why this one? Sex in the bathroom at the Life Cafe. Enough said. But see also At The Tone and Oasis for more of her Mark/Roger goodness.
